Leadership

Steering Committee

SFSBC is guided by an independent Steering Committee composed of small business operators, workforce representatives, civic advisors, and subject-matter experts from across the San Francisco Bay Area.

The Steering Committee exists to ensure SFSBC remains community-organized, transparent, and accountable to the businesses and workers it represents.

What the Steering Committee Does

Sets advocacy priorities

Establishes issue areas and positions based on member input, on-the-ground conditions, and verified data—rather than political alignment or outside influence.

Reviews policy and enforcement impacts

Evaluates proposed laws, regulations, and operational practices for real-world impact on small businesses, workers, neighborhoods, and public safety.

Provides structured engagement with government

Coordinates constructive communication with agencies and elected officials to improve clarity, implementation, and outcomes—without acting as a paid lobbying entity.

Maintains independence and transparency

Operates under formal by-laws that define decision-making, conflicts of interest, leadership roles, and term limits, ensuring accountability to the community rather than third parties.

Protects the organization’s mission and credibility

Ensures SFSBC is not a public relations firm, political consultancy, or hired advocate for government, corporations, or outside groups whose interests may conflict with small business operators

Governance & Accountability

SFSBC operates as a community-organized coalition, guided by written by-laws that outline:

  1. Governance structure and voting procedures

  2. Ethical standards and conflict-of-interest disclosures

  3. Financial transparency and reporting

  4. Member participation and feedback mechanisms

All positions taken by SFSBC are grounded in member needs, public safety, operational realities, and verified information.

Why This Matters

Small businesses need representation that is:

  1. Independent

  2. Informed

  3. Grounded in lived experience

  4. Free from undisclosed influence

The Steering Committee exists to protect that standard and ensure SFSBC remains a trusted, credible voice for local business and its workforce.
